The Good The Bad and the Ugly this week in our Dunes Country

Thursday Night the dunes country promoted the good the bad and the ugly in a number of venues.  As much as the murder of the Portage lady captures the media headlines, Anderson Cooper’s nationally televised 360 show, on CNN, featured a segment on abuse of children and an expose’ on Fairhaven Baptist Church.  Seven former students each told their stories of abuse, humiliation and suicidal thoughts.  Most telling on the Fairhaven expose was the amount of chatter on Facebook where one student posted comprehensive details of his abuse.  Shock, disgust and worst suspected fears were expressed of the neighborhood congregation that law enforcement persons have said could be the next Waco.  Juxtaposed to the bad news on Thursday night, nearby in Valparaiso, the county seat was highlighting our best and brightest stars, and Marc Nelson and Evan Costas who unveiled at the The Venue a viewing of their new television series that premiers this Monday evening on Lakeshore Public Television at 9:30 PM and “Live At The Alley.”   Marc and Evan have produced a montage of area bands that they have been taping this past year.  Their production is so good that some at the Venue were hoping that this new series might be picked up by PBS for a national audience.

While the Fairhaven Church was bringing about a public protest to take place on Sunday afternoon at 5 PM  and their ugly belittling and abuse of children it will be refreshing to see what  goodness is coming out of our area with Live at the Alley on Lakeshore Public Television and the profiling of our best musical ensembles in a refreshing new format introduced by bright prodigies from the county seat.
